Sound Design
DNSEP
Le Mans
The TALM-Le Mans School of Art and Design is the only institution in the international sphere to provide a higher education degree and certification in the sound design sector.
This course aims to train future professionals in applied sound creation in all areas where reflecting on, imagining, manufacturing and integrating sound promotes the use of sound in industry, town planning and architecture, museum space, digital media, art, cinema, and live performance. Each year, a hands-on workshop gives students the opportunity to respond to a brief for an industry or institutional partner and to implement methodology for a concrete sound design project. The module, which students can take in their fourth year, aims to establish a research and testing unit which merges sound with sound design theories and practices.
Up until now, our study programmes have been highly specialised including musical design and image sound. In the specific context of an art school that offers courses in art and design, the Sound Design DNSEP has a vocational emphasis and aims to encompass the diversity of this discipline by incorporating culture and methodology into students’ learning as well as the compositional and creative aspects of the subject.
The recent inclusion of the Sound Design DNSEP in France’s national directory of professional training courses has affirmed the profession of sound designer, which previously did not feature in the directory despite being part of a thriving international economy.
