More Urban
Increasing the urban experience with connected furniture
Overview
The Urba plus experiment aims to develop Luciole, a network of responsive, luminous and connected public benches and to study their impact in terms of atmosphere, use of space and impact on the surrounding economic ecosystem. The project advocates a design approach where several issues generally considered as non-related - technical, formal, social and ethical - converge in a single device.
Research results
The project’s objective was to develop a prototype and conduct an experiment combining data analysis and in situ observations. This collaboration provided the grounds for a study on innovation and the role design plays in its emergence. The purpose of this step was to restructure Luciole’s technical architecture and interactive scenario to produce a second prototype to serve as the basis for in situ and in vivo experiments in France and Europe. The purpose of these experiments is to validate and develop use scenarios for the industrialisation of future products and the development of new systems.
