Réseau Cinéma
Overview
As part of the Cinema research project which began in 2009, Réseau Cinéma (Cinema Network) was formed in 2015 by teachers, artists and theorists from several art schools. It aims to produce forms of collective experience and knowledge with and about film which is considered a tool and a research object. During the first phase (2016-2018), the authority of ethnographic museographies and landscape orders of tropical gardens was analysed based on Achille Mbembe’s thinking and his idea of working for another place, an anti-museum that, contrary to the ethnographic and colonial museum’s influence, allows radical hospitality to occur. The current Réseau Cinéma programme plans to lay foundations for different themes that question and invent collaborative forms. It will involve investing possible cinema roles, film objects or enlarged cinema, by creating places to do-and-think-together, places that welcome the heterogeneous, from elsewhere and afar, hospitable and friendly places for dialogue and not appropriation.
Research results
Réseau Cinéma activities during this period are reflected in both working time, schemes and subjects specific to each partner school (ARC, workshops) and collective events between schools (symposium, visits, meetings, seminars, workshops, collective productions). Ten collective events were organised between 2015 and 2020, such as the Eaux stagnantes (Stagnant Waters) workshop with artist Ali Cherri from 12 to 15 December 2017 (Bétonsalon, centre for art and research, Paris); Or Faire place à l’expérience (Make Room for Experience), with a production session for Réseau Cinéma students (25 to 29 March 2019 in Marseille).
Connection to the curriculum
In TALM-Angers, the network’s work took shape in the Faux Raccord research and creation workshop in addition to individual sessions. Thomas Bauer coordinates the programme. The ARC gives rise to regular meetings where student productions are discussed. There are also workshops, especially those held at the Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, La Compagnie in Marseille and Bétonsalon in Paris.
