What unites us
Art, SHS and the construction of subjectivity
Overview
“Ce qui nous lie” is a new transdisciplinary research area developed by Sandra Delacourt since 2017. The arts, collective imagination and the ecology of belonging to the social body (20th and 21st centuries). Systems for enunciative identity are addressed through a DNEP* seminar, workshops, a programme of public conferences (L’Œil viscéral) and a symposium. (*Diplôme Nationale Supérieure d’Expression Plastique - degree in plastic expression).
The field of art is part of the visible economy and as such it contributes to policies for the visible and the invisible that shape social imaginations and representations. In its own right, it is also a space where assigned identities are played on, replayed and undone along with the I-to-we relationship.
Research results
In March 2019, the Ce qui nous lie programme organised a symposium on the impact of the arts on the organisation and fragmentation of life forms entitled Hiérarchies et politiques du vivant (Hierarchies and politics of the living) (20th and 21st centuries). This symposium brought together artists, authors, curators and researchers in the humanities and social sciences with different art and SHS perspectives on humanity and bestiality.
Connection to the curriculum
Preparation and organisation of the Hiérarchies et politiques du vivant symposium was an integral part of the training received by students in the Art option of the DNSEP. The students were active participants in moderating the roundtables as well as in the performative sessions. Students also participated in the L’Œil viscéral conference programme which is organised as part of the research programme.
