Our three- and five-year courses in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage provide a solid introduction to the historical, scientific and technical study of a cultural artwork, from its history, the assessment of the materials it is made from, its execution to the restoration-conservation issues to be overcome. Trained conservation-restoration professionals are authorised to perform preventive conservation and restoration works on cultural heritage items, from fossils to polychrome statues right the way through to modern artworks (any type of heritage art: artistic, scientific, technical or natural heritage).
The programme focuses on sculptures taken from public collections. Specialisms cover monumental or movable works and the following materials: wood, papier-mâché, pictorial layers, wax, ivory, stone, plaster, stucco, raw earth, and terracotta, including contemporary works (installations, etc.).
Students’ ongoing learning is ensured by our academic staff and many outside professionals working at the school or through internships and on-site projects. Students can also use specially equipped premises in small groups (four to six students).
Qualified conservator-restorers study and research artworks and restoration methods and participate in conservation and restoration programmes.
They are authorised to carry out conservation-restoration procedures on items in collections of public museums in France (Law No. 2002 - 5 dated 4 January 2002 relating to museums in France, decree No. 2002 - 628 of 25 April 2002, article 13, articles 15 to 25).
