MAGMA, Art with Geo-materials: the acronym refers both to the material transformation process and to global warming. The programme offers practical teaching based on the physical and semantic study of earth material and its derivatives. The earth is thought of as a material world, explored as a site and as material, with a view to addressing the communality of resources.

Main disciplines taught:

• sculpture in the broad sense (objects, furniture, installations, land art, performance, landscaping, relational forms);
• techniques for fusing ceramics, glass and metals;
• theory and history of landscape and territorial reflection;
• study of technological, artisanal and industrial production methods;
• arts-science, ecological, bio-material and eco-design research.

The MAGMA project specifically aims to contextualise the exploration of both traditional and innovative “geo-materials” in concrete experimentation with a cross-cutting and forward-looking approach. MAGMA initiates reflection on geo-materials in the context of environmental and regional problems in terms of design, production, development, use and sharing.
